Pray for the Church
Praise God for pursuing us when we were sinners and rescuing as by grace through faith in His Son. Ask Him to help us guard our hearts from the temptation to idolatry that constantly surrounds us. Pray for God to grow us in grace and to make us a more gracious people. Pray for God to sustain all those in our faith family currently facing dark days, to prepare the rest of us for when we will walk through our own troubling times, and to lead us all to praise of Him despite and in spite of our earthly circumstances.
Pray for the City
This week we are praying for Oliver Elementary School, as well as the other Gate City area schools, and the many avenues of ministry through which Brook Hills members, along with others from the community, will be investing in the lives of students, families, and staff throughout the 2020-21 school year. We are also praying for Christ Church, PCA, Trussville, and Pastor James Dickson.
Day 1: Praise God for favor with the administrators and staff at Oliver Elementary School which has opened the door for Brook Hills members to build meaningful relationships with Oliver students and families. Pray for God’s continued grace as we search for new ways to support Oliver families during a pandemic.
Day 2: Pray for the Love Oliver initiative to serve its purpose to support and empower Oliver families by coming alongside them in Jesus’ name to love, serve, empower, and point them to Christ. Pray many would follow Christ this year.
Day 3: Praise God for BH’s generosity this year to the Love Oliver campaign, raising over $75,000 to provide 180 Chromebooks, 180 protective cases for those Chromebooks, classroom supplies for 21 classrooms and six electives, and PPE supplies for the office. Pray although we may not be allowed on campus because of the pandemic, for the Oliver families to know our love and support by these gifts.
Day 4: Pray for the children who are navigating this strange school year. Pray for understanding through online classes and through teaching packets and that they will retain the information being taught. Pray they will have and find the support and guidance needed. Pray they remain healthy throughout the school year and that COVID-19 does not touch their families.
Day 5: Pray for the teachers who are influencing and educating Oliver students on a daily basis. Pray as they prepare for students return to the classroom that they would have a peace about returning and a plan to stay healthy. Pray they would be joyful and compassionate as they model mask-wearing, hand-washing, and social distancing.
Day 6: Pray for the Brook Hills members serving at Oliver and in the community around Oliver to live a life worthy of the calling they have received and would not grow weary in doing good. Pray for a great harvest and many volunteers to show and share the gospel, especially when the schools reopen to volunteers!
Pray for the World
This week we are praying for the Turks of Turkey. The Turks make up the majority people (over 70%) and though ethnically diverse, have a fairly homogenous culture. The Turks of Turkey are predominantly Sunni Muslims, believing in one god (Allah), and an eternal heaven and hell. However, they have many ethnic beliefs and superstitions. Among the over 65 million Turks of Turkey, less than 2% are evangelical Christians. Join us this week as we pray for God to do a work among the Turks of Turkey.
Day 1: Praise God the Church among Turks has grown and at last become a visible reality, even though still a small percentage of the population. Pray for God to renew these believers to share the gospel with their friends and neighbors even in the face of opposition. Pray for God to strengthen the church through His word and those appointed as pastors.
Day 2: Pray for God to open the hearts of Turks to their need for salvation. Pray for Turks to see that salvation comes only through faith in Christ.
Day 3: Turks have a deep sense of national pride and even though Turkey is a secular state, its long association with Islam makes conversion to Christianity very difficult. Pray for radical change in public attitudes toward Christians. Pray for the one true God to be revealed in the Islamic saturated society of Turkey.
Day 4: Pray for our partners who are actively engaging Turks with the gospel. Pray for God to make them bold in their proclamation of the gospel and for opportunities to develop strong healthy relationships with those they are engaging.
Day 5: Many believers among the Turks face significant persecution from their family members. Pray for God to provide for our brothers and sisters who face loneliness, isolation, and poverty.
Day 6: There is a critical need for the global Church to engage in this area of the world. Earnestly pray for God to send more workers to live and work among the Turks.
