Pray for the Church
Praise God for the many ways He gifts and equips us to serve one another and build His church. Ask Him to help us see what opportunities for service before us would be the right ones for us to fill. Pray for God to strengthen us through the service of others and for Him to receive the glory He deserves.
Pray for the City
This week we are praying for Prison Fellowship, a Christian ministry begun by Chuck Colson after his conversion in prison that aims to see all who are affected by crime and incarceration reconciled to God, their families, and their communities. Prison Fellowship provides biblical instruction and support in prisons throughout the U.S., cares for families affected by crime, and advocates for equal justice for all and second chances for the formerly incarcerated. We are also praying for Brook Hills member, Jeremy Miller, who leads out in these efforts throughout our state as Alabama’s Prison Fellowship Field Director. We’re also praying for Iron City Church and Pastor Issac Adams.
Day 1: Pray for the Angel Tree families that are being “adopted” by Brook Hills families this week for Christmas. Pray for our church to be a safe place for these children to share their stories and find community. Pray for the families of the children. Pray for Brook Hills to be a church that wraps its arms around families that are hurting and shares the hope found only in Christ.
Day 2: Pray for the Prison Fellowship Academies inside correctional facilities across our state. Pray for transformed lives and renewed minds for the 130 men and 45 women in these academies that meet 2-3 times a week to study God’s Word. Pray for wisdom and strength for the volunteers that take time out of their busy schedules each week to lead these classes.
Day 3: Pray for Prison Fellowship’s Hope Events coming up in the next couple of months. Many incarcerated men and women will attend these evangelistic services. Pray for their hearts to be open to the gospel. Pray for those that will share the gospel with these men and women through the teaching of God’s Word, testimony, and song.
Day 4: Pray for second chances! Pray for all those who are being released from prison to have the opportunity to find employment and become productive citizens in our community. Pray for Christians to surround them and support them. Pray for everyone that has been affected by crime and incarceration to find healing, redemption, and ultimately, restoration, through a relationship with Jesus.
Day 5: Pray for Prison Fellowship’s Alabama Field Director, Jeremy Miller, as he provides leadership to all these programs and events in the state. Pray for wisdom, strength, and discernment as he interacts with the incarcerated, volunteers, and state officials daily.
Day 6: Pray for Prison Fellowship’s Angel Tree families all across the state of Alabama. Pray for their lives to be impacted by the gospel of Jesus Christ. Pray for the 4,000+ Angel Tree children of incarcerated parents to not follow in the path of their parents, but seek to live crime-free, God-honoring lives. Pray for all the Christian mentors that pour their lives into these children.
Pray for the World
This week, we are praying for some of our Long-Termers, James* and Marie*, who are utilizing a full-time job to be part of a team in the Middle East. James works full-time as an accountant.
Day 1: Pray for deep relationships, particularly in their neighborhood and in James’s workplace. Pray for boldness and wisdom to pursue opportunities to read the Word with these friends.
Day 2: A few weeks ago, they covenanted together as a church with a small group of believers in their city. Pray for unity and love for each other during this season. Pray for the way they love one another to be a shining light in a dark place.
Day 3: Local believers are scattered throughout the city. Pray for local leaders to be raised up and churches to be formed. Pray for these believers to persevere and strive to live a different life than those around them. Pray for them to have boldness to share the gospel and a broken heart for their lost friends and family.
Day 4: Pray for James and Marie to be disciplined in prayer and time in the Word. Pray for them to strive for holiness in all aspects of their lives and to be quick to repent of sin. Pray for them to lean into the gospel on a daily basis.
Day 5: Pray for Marie as she learns language. Pray for her to be steadfast in studying and to be reminded that her worth is not in language learning, but in Christ alone.
Day 6: Pray for their two children as they are growing up in a foreign context. Pray for their hope to be in Jesus and not in their nationality or in the language they speak. Pray for the Father to save them and for them to be a light among darkness.
