Pray for the Church
Praise God for the new life He grants us by grace through faith in Jesus Christ. Ask God to help us all live as His new creation in this world, helping others see who He is and how they can know Him as well. Thank God for the opportunity to join Him on His mission. Pray for God to help us see all the opportunities surounding us to demonstrate the love of Jesus to others and share with them the truth of the gospel.
Pray for the City
This week we are praying for The World Games 2022 as over 3,600 athletes from over 100 countries come to our great city. A total of 14 competition venues will be used for the games and an estimated 500,000 spectators will attend one of the 221 events. As families, volunteers, and fans from around the globe descend on Birmingham this week, please join us in praying for Christ-followers to show warm hospitality and love our neighbors well. Pray also for gospel conversations to happen all across our city. We are also praying this week for Christ Fellowship Church and Pastor Bart Box.
Day 1: Pray for believers and local churches as they seek to engage with the lost from around the world. Pray for church leaders as they seek to equip their members to serve in a Christ-like manner at the games. Pray for opportunities to share the gospel and demonstrate the love of Christ throughout our city.
Day 2: Pray for the visitors at The World Games. Pray for the families of the 3,500 athletes. Pray for the 1,000 credentialed media members covering The World Games. Pray for the dignitaries and world leaders attending the games. Pray that each visitor would have the opportunity to hear the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Day 3: Pray for the staff and volunteers of The World Games. Pray for them to be full of compassion, patience, and the love of Christ (if they are Christ-followers) as they seek to serve the athletes and spectators well. Pray for the Holy Spirit to provide a way for them to have meaningful gospel conversations while they responsibly perform their assigned tasks.
Day 4: Pray for safety during The World Games. Pray for all city, state, and federal government agencies involved in providing security during The World Games. Pray for God’s protection for all athletes, families, visitors, volunteers, staff, and leadership. Pray for the athletes to be protected from injury. Most importantly, pray for our city to be a place of refuge, love, and peace for the visiting world.
Day 5: Pray for The World Games Organizing Committee and Board of Directors. Pray for Mayor Randall Woodfin as he seeks to proudly display our beautiful city to the watching world. Pray that the Holy Spirit would direct Mayor Woodfin and the other leaders to lead in a way that brings honor to God and blessings to our city.
Day 6: Pray for the closing ceremonies. Pray that as athletes, volunteers, and leaders all return to their countries, the gospel would travel with them. Pray that the world would have a new perspective of our city and of Christians as they reflect on how they were loved and cared for while they were here. Pray that long after The World Games 2022 has come to a close, lives will continue to be impacted by the gospel because of conversations and relationships built during the games.
