Care For Widows
"Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world." - James 1:27
A Call To Care
All throughout Scripture, God makes clear His care and concern for widows. He is the “protector of widows” (Psalm 68:5) who “upholds the widow” with His strength and love (Psalm 146:9). He commands men and women to care for widows in their families (1 Timothy 5:8, 16). Beyond this, He calls His people to honor widows through support from the church (1 Timothy 5:3-8) and to enlist widows for service in the church (1 Timothy 5:9-10).
In our faith family, we want to obey God’s Word and reflect God’s love to widows in our midst. Therefore, we encourage all the brothers and sisters to prioritize care for widows in their own families. However, for widows who have no family to care for them, who are trusting in God, and whose lives are devoted to God in prayer, we want to lovingly and intentionally care for them.
For Those In Need
If you are a widow who has no family to care for you, your faith family wants to care for you as you trust in the Lord and devote your life to Him. Many small groups want to provide intentional care for specific widows in our faith family. These small groups eagerly want to connect with you.
First, we ask that you listen to the message from the First Timothy series entitled "The Family Of God." You can find it here on or after Monday, September 19. Then, contact us. Let us know who you are and specific ways a small group might care for you. Email us at or call Tanya Poe at 205-313-7777.
Additionally, members of Brook Hills have begun ministries specifically designed to care for widows. You can contact these ministries directly.
