Mission Teams

If you’ve just signed up for a short-term mission team, you probably have a lot of questions. The following information is a good starting point to guide you as you begin preparing to serve in another context. Your team leader will contact you about team meetings, training opportunities, and team-specific details. But … this info should help get you started!

  • Get Your Passport

It’s never too early to get your passport. It generally takes 6 weeks to get your passport book, so go ahead and apply now in order to avoid additional fees. Complete passport information—including the application and information about fees—can be found at the U.S. State Department’s website. If you are traveling ANYWHERE outside of the United States, you will need a passport book.

  • Forming Your Global Support Team

The purpose of your Global Support Team is two-fold. First, this team is your prayer base for your mission service. Second, these individuals may assist you in the task of raising the funds needed to go. This team is much more than a group of people who may "write a check" for you. Don’t miss the biggest benefit of having a Global Support Team—prayer support.

  • Raising Financial Support

One of the best ways to enlist your Global Support Team is by sending support letters. Remember, you are not only requesting financial support. You also need them to pray for you so a prayer network will be in place on your behalf. Download the suggested guidelines pdf.

  • Financial Policies

    • Global Disciple-Making Financial Policies (PDF download)
    • Hardship Grant (PDF Download) – Funds have been allocated to assist Brook Hills’ members who are experiencing a financial crisis that would otherwise prevent them from participating with a short-term mission team. If you have attempted to raise funds for your trip and are still unable to raise the full amount needed, please complete the application and return to Noah at . Applications will be reviewed by an independent committee for approval.
    • Family Assistance Scholarship – A scholarship of 15% per family member may be awarded to a family when two or more immediate family members are participating on the same mission team. Email Noah at to request this scholarship.
    • Project Funds – Project funds are available to Brook Hills’ mission teams to offset costs associated with specific projects. Email a budget outlining the proposed project and anticipated cost to Noah at for approval by the GDM Admin Team.
  • Global Disciple-Making Forms

Please complete the following forms and turn them into your team leader at your first team meeting.

  • Packing & Flying

We realize that many people don’t travel by air often, and most have not traveled internationally. It’s important to know and understand the Transportation Security Administration’s regulations for luggage, packing, etc.—particularly for carry-on luggage. This affects everything from toothpaste to shaving cream. Please be sure to review this information prior to departure.
