Homewood

You are the salt of the earth, but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trampled under people's feet. You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden.  Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.

Matthew 5:13-16

Homewood/Southside Church Plant Preview Gathering

When: March 4, 2011

Where: Iron Tribe Fitness, 300 27th Street South, Birmingham, AL 35203

What is a preview gathering? A preview gathering is something of a bridge between core team meetings and weekly, public worship gatherings. The church plant will host two such meetings. The first preview will be on February 12th and the second one on March 4th before beginning weekly worship gatherings on April 8th. We'll join together to sing, pray, and hear from God's Word. In addition, this is an opportunity to both hear about the new church and connect with others involved. If you are interested in hearing and learning more, you're invited to come and worship with us. Childcare will be provided.

Why a Church Plant in the Homewood Area?

Preserving the Gospel

We want to be salt. We live in an area where churches are plentiful but the gospel is not always accurately presented. To put it another way, cultural Christianity poses a real and serious threat in our midst. Biblically speaking, the church is called to be the household of God, the pillar and buttress of truth. So, we want to be a body where the Word of God, in all of its truth and authority, is cherished, preached, obeyed, and spread.

Reaching the Lost

We want to be light. We live by, play with, and work alongside lost people every day. In addition to that, there are thousands in our city who subscribe to a cultural Christianity devoid of saving faith. Acts 17:26 says, “And He made from one man every nation of mankind to live on all the face of the earth, having determined allotted periods and the boundaries of their dwelling place.” At least for now, God has determined that we live here, and so we have a unique responsibility to witness to the truth where we live. And one of the most effective ways to uphold that responsibility is through the planting of new churches in a given community, establishing a localized and renewed gospel witness.

Displaying the Glory of God

We want the glory of God. Our ultimate goal is that people may give glory to our Father who is in heaven. We want God’s glory to be seen in sinners who are redeemed, marriages that are restored, outcasts who are loved, and, ultimately, through a Christ who is exalted.

And they devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers. And awe came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were being done through the apostles. And all who believed were together and had all things in common. And they were selling their possessions and belongings and distributing the proceeds to all, as any had need. And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts, praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved. Hear God’s Word.

Acts 2:42-47
