Pray for the Church
Praise God for the many ways He grows and strengthens our church. Pray for Him to help us all be bold in our witness and to make the most of every opportunity to proclaim His gospel, even those that are challenging or inconvenient. Pray He will receive great glory for all the faithful work He is accomplishing in and through us.
Pray for the City
This week we are praying for Discovery Clubs, a ministry of the Birmingham Metro Baptist Association. Discovery Clubs are weekly after-school Bible clubs that will meet in 22 elementary schools this fall across the greater Birmingham area and surrounding counties, reaching over 1,000 children, many of whom do not attend church. Discovery Clubs offer Bible study, memory verse activities, and other fun, inspirational activities to help children know about the love of Christ. Discovery Clubs teaches the gospel to children while also building biblical foundations for life, developing character, and changing families. We’re also praying this week for Gardendale First Baptist Church and Pastor Kevin Hamm.
Day 1: Pray for the schools that are allowing Discovery Clubs to meet on their campuses. Pray for God to bless the school administrations and faculties for their willingness to have the gospel taught in their schools.
Day 2: Pray for the volunteers to not grow weary in doing good and to be blessed by the work they are doing with the children. Pray for new volunteers and mentors, especially at Oliver Elementary School.
Day 3: Pray for the students Discovery Clubs will reach this upcoming school year. Pray for their salvation. Pray for safety and peace for each student and their families. Pray that as they attend, they will know that Jesus loves them deeply and that the volunteers do too!
Day 4: Pray for the schools where they meet to be richly blessed by Discovery Clubs’ presence. Pray for the school supervisors who oversee the club meeting at each school. Pray for the love of Christ to shine through them and for God to give them wisdom as they walk through hard places with their students and volunteers.
Day 5: Pray for Discovery Clubs’ current church partners. Pray for the Lord to bless them for their generosity. Pray for many other churches to join in partnership with Discovery Clubs.
Day 6: Pray for financial provision for Discovery Clubs as they continue their mission to reach unchurched, elementary-age children in public elementary schools. Pray for the Lord to bless their efforts as they forge new funding opportunities under the Birmingham Metro Baptist Association. Pray for blessings on all who have and will donate to help Discovery Clubs share the love of Christ with children across the city.
Pray for the World
This week we are praying for our partner, Compassion International. Compassion International seeks to see children released from poverty in Jesus’ name all over the world. Brook Hills has partnered with them for over 10 years, and specifically partners with the work happening through Compassion in Togo.
Day 1: Compassion partners with 8,500 frontline indigenous churches. Pray for these churches and their ongoing work to release children from poverty in Jesus’ name.
Day 2: Brook Hills’ current focus country through Compassion is Togo. Education is not prioritized in Togo. While many children attend primary school, only about 41% of children are enrolled in secondary school. Only 60% of teens are literate. Pray for the children of Togo to be motivated to stay in school, excel in their studies, and dream big for their futures.
Day 3: Music and dance are very important in Togolese culture. Pray for the children in Togo who are trying to fulfill their dreams as a musician. Pray they will continue to develop their skills and abilities.
Day 4: An estimated 276 million people around the world are severely food insecure. Pray for Compassion’s efforts to respond to this global food crisis and meet the urgent needs of the poor.
Day 5: The pandemic, disasters, and conflict have forced 80-100 million more people into extreme poverty in recent years. In response, Compassion plans to serve 1 million more children in the next five years, which will require the opening of 500 new child development centers in various countries. Pray for God’s blessing and provision to achieve this goal.
Day 6: Out of all the countries where Compassion works, Burkina Faso, Haiti, Ethiopia, and Togo have the most severe rates of infant mortality. Pray that children can reach their first birthday with a foundation of healthy development and hope for a brighter future through Compassion’s Survival Centers.
