Pray for the Church
Praise God for the new life He gives us in Christ by grace through faith. Pray for Him to produce fruit of our life with Him in and through our lives. Ask Him to grant us the strength and perseverance we need to walk in the good works He has prepared for us. Pray for many to see our good works and glorify our Father in Heaven.
Pray for the City
This week, in observance of Human Trafficking Awareness Month, we are interceding on behalf of human trafficking victims in the Greater Birmingham area, especially those who are minors. Human trafficking is a form of modern-day slavery that involves the recruitment, transfer, or receipt of an individual by means of force, coercion, or deception for the purpose of exploitation, many times involving minors. Research over the past few years has shown that this is a $110 million industry annually in the Birmingham area. We’re also praying for Altadena Valley Presbyterian Church and Pastor Brad Allison.
Day 1: Pray for God to protect, rescue, heal, save, and restore human trafficking victims in our own city, especially those who have been unable to escape their circumstances. Ask God to send his Holy Spirit to comfort the afflicted and be a very present help for them in times of trouble.
Day 2: Ask Jesus for an awakening among all offenders of human trafficking. Pray for them to repent of their sin, turn to Jesus, and become forces for freedom.
Day 3: Pray for God to bring awareness to the Body of Christ concerning human trafficking. Pray for Him to awaken the community, nation, and world to the personal and societal destruction caused by this exploitation.
Day 4: Pray for the Church to be compelled by the biblical mandate in Scripture to seek justice for the oppressed. Ask God to speak through His Body in word and deed. Also, pray for local government authorities as they seek to combat slavery in all its forms.
Day 5: Sex trafficking and pornography are closely linked. Pray for sexual purity within the Church. Pray for individuals struggling with sexual sin, and for ministries, like Awaken, that are helping adults find freedom in Christ.
Day 6: Pray for our partners, The WellHouse and Blanket Fort Hope, and other organizations in Birmingham that God has called to serve victims of human trafficking.
Pray for the World
This week we are praying for the International Mission Board (IMB), a Brook Hills partner for sending missionaries. The IMB is the primary mission organization for Southern Baptist churches, and works in every area of the world to make disciples of all peoples in fulfillment of the Great Commission. The Church at Brook Hills partners with the IMB in sending short-term, mid-term, long-term, and church planting teams overseas.
Day 1: Praise God for the ways He has used the IMB to make the gospel known throughout the world. Pray for God to continue to open up multiple pathways through the IMB for more believers to be sent to the least-reached peoples and places.
Day 2: Pray for wisdom and clarity as the IMB moves forward in its strategy to support the local church as God accomplishes the Great Commission through His people.
Day 3: Praise God for those He has raised up, called, and confirmed to serve with the IMB. Pray for God to encourage and strengthen workers in the field as they boldly share the gospel and make disciples among all peoples.
Day 4: Pray for IMB President, Dr. Paul Chitwood, and others in senior leadership. Pray for God to give wisdom as they lead the IMB to glorify God and support churches as they make disciples of all nations.
Day 5: Pray for God to use the IMB to make His name known among unreached people groups in greater ways than ever before.
Day 6: Thank God for the partnership He has given us at Brook Hills with the IMB. Pray for this partnership to continue to grow as people go and serve the nations through the IMB.
