Pray for the Church
Praise God for His grace and for the miracles He works in our lives even today. Ask God to help grow our faith and to trust His promises more and more. Pray we will seek every opporunity to share the gospel with our broken world.
Pray for the City
This week we are praying for the ministry of WorkFaith Birmingham, a Christ-centered nonprofit workforce preparation and life development ministry focused on helping adults in transition facing employment barriers. It was started by Keith Stanley, our City Ministries Pastor, to provide an avenue to bring the Body of Christ alongside adults needing skill development to get a job and keep a job, and to develop Christian ethics to maintain work. We are praying for them this month as they celebrate eight years of ministry, 150 workshops, and 1100 graduates. We’re also praying this week for 16th Street Baptist Church and Pastor Arthur Price.
Day 1: Pray for WorkFaith’s clients, alumni, volunteers, and donors to trust in Christ for their salvation and to connect to a local church where they can grow in Christ and experience biblical community.
Day 2: Pray for God to raise up an army of volunteers to join in helping adults move forward in life through work and faith by serving as mock interviewers, board members, web and social media supporters, mentors, and more.
Day 3: Pray for the over 75% of graduates who have gained employment to move forward into careers that provide sustainable wages for them and their families. Pray for those graduates that are still seeking employment to be diligent in their search and not be discouraged. Pray for God to provide employers willing to hire graduates from WorkFaith.
Day 4: Pray for God to provide abundant wisdom and a clear vision for the leadership and staff of WorkFaith as they develop and implement a strategy to multiply their mission to “Empower Lives Through Work & Faith” by equipping others across Alabama with their curriculum.
Day 5: Pray for additional resources and partnerships to develop and grow in order to create a pipeline for job seekers to develop both hard skills for career advancement and the soft skills needed to maintain employment.
Day 6: Pray for WorkFaith’s ministry partners: The Lovelady Center, The WellHouse, The Salvation Army Center of Hope, Community Care Development Network, Jefferson County Drug Court, and The Jefferson County Second Chance Hiring Fair. Pray for God to continue to provide all the resources needed to serve their clients.
Pray for the World
Chris and Joanna were commissioned in 2017 by The Church at Brook Hills as Long-Termers to Southeast Asia. They and their two daughters, Naomi and Chloe, have been serving among an unreached people group of around 40 million people. In order to gain access to areas and communities that are almost 100 percent the majority religion of Islam, Chris and Joanna operate a humanitarian platform that meets urgent physical human needs. This opens doors for them to address the people’s most urgent spiritual needs. Over the years, God has blessed their team’s efforts and many people have surrendered their lives to Jesus and a handful of underground house churches have been planted.
Day 1: Pray for Chris and Joanna as they shepherd and love their two young daughters, Naomi and Chloe. Pray that the Lord would open their hearts and minds to the truths of the gospel and that Naomi and Chloe would both surrender their lives to Christ.
Day 2: Pray for the nearly 40 million people within the people group they are engaging. Many, if not most, have never had the gospel explained to them and live in areas with little to no access to the gospel. Pray for laborers to join the work. Pray also that God will soften the hearts of the people and that many will respond with joy at the hearing of the gospel.
Day 3: Pray for their local partners that are daily engaging in humanitarian work, evangelism, discipleship, and the facilitating of house churches. Pray for these faithful men and women to be filled with the Spirit and that God will give them boldness and strength as they faithfully serve in very difficult places. Pray for the networks of house churches they work with spread throughout rural locations. Pray for the spiritual vitality and health of these house churches.
Day 4: Praise God that through the witness of their local teammates and the believers in the house church networks, last month eighteen people surrendered their lives to Christ! Pray for these new believers as they are discipled and begin to grow in following Christ. Ask God to make the new life they now possess evident to those around them and pray that they would be faithful to share with their friends and family.
Day 5: Pray for Chris, Joanna, and their team as they strive to faithfully and effectively disciple new believers. There are many challenges to discipleship in their context, such as difficult locations of the believers, education, literacy, cultural hurdles, and so on. Pray for wisdom in discipleship and for steadfast prioritization of it.
Day 6: Praise God for the faithfulness of Brook Hills’ members in giving to the Global Offering, which has helped Chris and Joanna get means of transportation and provide water filters for their ministry needs.
