Pray for the Church
Praise God for calling out Pastor Matt to serve as our Senior Pastor ten years ago. Ask Him to continue to give Matt joy, wisdom, conviction, and discernment. Pray for God to speak clearly through Matt’s preaching and to transform us through His Word. Pray for us all to follow after Christ and encourage one another to do the same.
Pray for the City
This week we are praying for Birmingham Urban Young Life. Young Life is a Christian ministry with a mission to introduce adolescents to Jesus and help them grow in their faith. Urban Young Life serves the students of Restoration Academy Middle School, Restoration Academy High School, and Putnam Middle School. Their office is located on Huffman Baptist Church campus.
DAY 1: Pray that every student within the influence of Urban Young Life will have the opportunity to understand the gospel and grow in their relationship with Jesus. Pray for boldness for volunteer leaders in presenting the gospel and for the Lord soften the hearts of the students.
DAY 2: Pray for the students involved with Urban Young Life Summer Camps and in their Fall programs. Pray for safety, health, and perseverance in their schoolwork. Pray for new positive friendships to form.
DAY 3: Pray for the families of the Urban Young Life Students. Pray that they also would be touched by the love of Christ and that their lives would be transformed.
DAY 4: Pray that the Urban Young Life leaders would be filled to the overflow with the love of Jesus so they can continue pouring out into the lives of teens. Pray that they would be consistent in their service so that their relationships with the students can deepen.
DAY 5: Pray for new leaders in the Birmingham area to feel the call to mentor students in the urban community. Pray that people would feel the burden to mentor, pray, and love students in hard places.
DAY 6: Pray for the gift of financial sustainability for Birmingham Urban Young Life. Pray for Sedrick Moore, the Executive Director, and the Board of Directors as they seek to steward well the resources provided for their work.
Pray for the World
This week we are praying for believers and workers in areas of the world where they are under scrutiny and face the potential of being deported or prosecuted for their faith and work. Visit opendoorsus.org to learn more about persecution and discrimination around the world.
DAY 1: Pray for believers and workers who are under scrutiny for sharing the gospel with others. Ask the Lord to give them peace and protection from those who wish to do them harm.
DAY 2: Ask the Lord to provide wisdom and discernment to those who may be in the midst of questioning and interrogation. Pray for their safety and that they would be “wise as serpents and harmless as doves”. Ask the Spirit to give them the right words at the right time.
DAY 3: Pray for those who are interrogating or antagonizing workers and believers. Ask the Lord to soften their hearts, that they would have compassion and mercy. Ask God to open their eyes and minds to the truth and that they will have a Paul-like conversion to faith in Christ.
DAY 4: Pray that the Lord would strengthen the body of Christ to encourage and intercede on behalf of their brothers and sisters under scrutiny. Pray that they would not shrink back from sharing the gospel but would press into the work and rely on the power of the Spirit to continue on. Pray that the gospel would spread quickly and be honored wherever it goes.
DAY 5: Ask the Lord to guard the hearts and minds of those under scrutiny and pressure. Pray that they would not be discouraged and defeated but that they would trust the sovereignty and power of God in all things at all times.
DAY 6: Pray that believers and workers who have been called out for their life in Christ would continue to be bold and that they would grow in faith, love God more deeply, and would trust Him completely
