Pray for the Church
Praise God for the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Pray for us all to be bold in our witness, confident in the work God has accomplished on our behalf. Pray for us all to live our lives full of the hope that is ours through Christ.
Pray for the City
This week we are praying for the ministry of WorkFaith Birmingham (WFB; workfaithbhm.org), a Christian non-profit workforce and life development ministry empowering adults in transition that are facing employment barriers. WFB was started by Keith Stanley, our City Ministries Pastor, to provide an avenue to bring the Body of Christ alongside adults needing skill development to get a job and keep a job, and to develop Christian ethics to maintain work. We are praying for them as they celebrate ten years of ministry, 177 workshops, and over 1400 class graduates. We are also praying for Sixth Avenue Baptist Church and Pastor John Cantelow III.
DAY 1: Pray for the clients, alumni, volunteers, and donors, for them to all trust Christ for their salvation and connect to a local church where they can grow in Christ and experience biblical community.
DAY 2: Pray for the new Magic City Pipeline career program so graduates can find and embrace the right career path to provide sustainable wages for their family. Pray for employers to join the program, for career training opportunities, and for the finances to support this initiative.
DAY 3: Pray for the WFB Board of Directors, staff, and volunteers as they implement new strategies to multiply their mission to “Empower Lives Through Work and Faith”.
DAY 4: Pray for more volunteers and additional financial resources and partnerships to develop and grow the new career pipeline and the new partnerships in Alabama prisons.
DAY 5: Pray for the 1400 plus graduates to obtain jobs. Pray for employers to extend second chances and hire them. Pray many potential employers will join the next Jefferson County Second Chances Job Fair on October 8.
DAY 6: Pray for WFB ministry partners: The Lovelady Center, The WellHouse, The Salvation Army Center of Hope, Jefferson County Drug Court, Alabama Prison System, and The Jefferson County Second Chance Hiring Fair. Ask God to continue to provide all the resources needed for them and WFB to serve adults in transition.
Pray for the World
This week we are praying for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Only 6% of the country’s 36 million people profess to be Christians. The majority of the population are Muslim. Freedom of religion is not provided under the law and the government prohibits the public observance of any religion other than Islam.
DAY 1: Pray for believers who are severely restricted in sharing their faith with Muslims and gathering for church activities. Ask the Lord to protect them and give them wisdom and boldness to share with people of peace.
DAY 2: Ask the Lord to continue to grow the church in Saudi Arabia, despite pressure and persecution. Pray for their gospel witness as they look for ways to express and share their faith. Ask the Lord to lead them to people who are particularly searching for truth.
DAY 3: Ask the Lord to give Christian communities discernment as they seek to welcome new believers experiencing intense scrutiny, family rejection, and persecution.
DAY 4: Ask the Holy Spirit to continue to draw Muslims in Saudi Arabia to Himself, revealing the truth about Jesus and the Bible.
DAY 5: Pray for missionaries who are currently working in this region. Ask the Lord to guard and protect them, to give them strength and peace, and to sustain them in the work.
DAY 6: Pray for those who God is calling to serve in Saudi Arabia. Pray the Lord would confirm His call on their hearts and provide for their every need. Ask God to guard their hearts and minds as they prepare to go and to grant them peace and assurance in their obedience.
