After much prayer and a search process that has extended over several months, our Elder Council and Personnel Ministry Team are pleased to present Greg O’Connor as a candidate to join our pastoral staff as Pastor of Administration.

Greg’s story of salvation came as a young married adult.  Though he was raised in a home that valued religion, Greg’s relationship with God was not personal, and over time he drifted away from church. After he and his wife, Christy, were married, they recognized their need for a church family and became involved in Bell Shoals Baptist Church in Florida where Christy had been raised. Through faithful gospel conversations and consistent preaching, God began to draw Greg to Himself. However, it wasn’t until they applied to serve with kids that Greg came to see the depth of his sin and his need for a Savior as a Children’s Minister lovingly shared the gospel with him.

“It became clear that I could never work hard enough or be good enough to reconcile myself to God,” Greg shared. “At that moment, I understood what Jesus had done for me on the cross.”

Greg was baptized shortly after placing his faith in Christ and has continued to grow in his walk with the Lord, which is marked by a deep love for God’s Word and a desire to faithfully shepherd others.

Before entering full-time ministry, Greg spent more than 25 years in executive leadership roles within a multi-regional commercial truck dealership. During that time, he led large staff teams, oversaw significant budgets, and gained extensive experience in strategic planning, organizational leadership, and business operations. It was this job that first brought Greg and Christy to Birmingham where they joined Brook Hills. During their time here (2010-2017), they led marriage courses for young adults and participated in short-term mission trips. In addition, Christy served with BH Kids and Greg served on the Personnel Ministry Team.

In 2018, Greg sensed a clear call to ministry and began formal theological training, earning a B.A. in Biblical Studies with a minor in Ministry. In the years that followed, he served in Uganda with Amazima Ministries, where he provided pastoral care and doctrinal training for a large staff, while also helping develop systems and processes to strengthen ministry effectiveness.

Greg has been serving as the Executive Pastor at Grace Community Church, just outside of Grand Rapids, Michigan. In this role, he has supported the Lead Pastor and elders in implementing the church’s vision, overseen administrative and operational functions, and provided care, teaching, and leadership for various ministries within the church.

Greg and Christy have been married for over 20 years. Christy is deeply involved in discipling children and building relationships with families. Together, they have two children, Jaxson (17) and Kaya (16), whom they fostered and later adopted during their time here in Birmingham. Jaxson is outgoing and inquisitive, and he participates in track and field as a thrower of the discus and shot put. Kaya is friendly and loves to explore her creative talents. As a family, the O’Connors enjoy spending time outdoors and playing games together.

Greg describes his leadership as relational and grounded in prayer and Scripture, with a strong desire to support and strengthen the ministries of the church. He is passionate about equipping teams, developing healthy systems, and ensuring that the operational life of the church effectively supports the mission of making disciples. With regard to the relationship between operations/administration and ministries in the church, Greg says, “...a helpful picture is the trellis and vine. Operations provide the structure and stability that allow ministry to flourish freely. Strong systems and support allow the work of the gospel to move forward with health and order.”

Greg is excited about the opportunity to serve at The Church at Brook Hills and to come alongside our pastors, staff, and members in advancing the gospel.

We are excited to present Greg O’Connor to you and ask you to join us in prayerfully considering him for the staff role of Pastor of Administration. If you are a member of Brook Hills, you may ask questions or express any biblical concerns by sending an email to

Following a two-week period of prayer and consideration, a vote of affirmation will be taken as part of our worship gatherings on Sunday, April 12.
