Join Sonia Martin (LICSW,PIP) for a free workshop designed to benefit both the novice who is just learning about trauma-informed care and the seasoned foster parent, volunteer, caregiver, or professional who is seeking to improve their skills.
In Behavior 101, Sonia will discuss what trauma is and how it affects the brain and behavior. She will help us understand physiologically what is happening when a child “flips their lid” and seems to have uncontrollable “melt downs” or “shuts down” or “runs away” and how caregivers can intervene to help that child respond appropriately.
She will also discuss 6 Typical Trauma Behaviors -Lying, Cheating, Stealing, Manipulation/Need for Control, Violence/Aggression, and Hoarding. She will provide practical strategies to caregivers for reducing negative behavior and demonstrate accompanying sensory components to assist children in developing new behaviors.
Behavior 102 will provide more specific application principles for classroom settings and foster parenting followed by a Q&A.
CEU Credits will be provided to foster parents who attend. Lifeline can also provide CEU credits to education and social work professionals.
