BURNING THE SHIPS: A SERIES IN HEBREWS

Hernán Cortés landed in Mexico and burned his own ships on the shore. No way back, only forward. That's the call of Hebrews. The original readers were tempted to drift back to what was safe and familiar, and the author writes to tell them Christ is better. Better than angels, better than Moses, better than the old priesthood, better than any sacrifice that came before Him. He is worthy of everything, and there's no going back to anything less.

This fall and spring, the men of Brook Hills are working through the book of Hebrews together. No looking back. All in on Christ.

Fridays | Starting September 25, 6:15-7:30am in the Community Room

MEET THE LEADERS


Jeff Kunard
I have been married to my wife Laura for almost 22 years and have three teenage kids. We have been attending Brook Hills since we moved to Birmingham in 2013. I have had the privilege of serving in various roles at the church and currently serve as a group leader. I have been part of the men's community now for close to ten years and love walking, praying, and encouraging brothers in the ups and downs of life.

Chris Amaro
My wife Wendy and I have been attending Brook Hills since ’04 and love our faith family. In our 20 years of marriage, we’ve raised 4 children, served in many different capacities and love being present in the lives of others. Men’s ministry has been incredibly impactful to me, and I look forward to learning, sharing and knowing our God more and more each day by doing life together alongside our brothers at Brook Hills!
 

Chris Thompson
I live in Leeds with my wife and our three kids. We lead a Sunday morning group for other young parents, and I’ve enjoyed being a part of the Friday morning men’s group since my family started attending Brook Hills in 2020.
 

Darin White
I teach at Samford University, where I direct our sports industry program in the business school, after spending many years coaching college soccer. My wife Laura and I have seven kids, five bonus kids, and five grandkids, so at this point we could field our own church softball team, coaches included. I'm a self-proclaimed Bible nerd who loves biblical theology; I write for The Gospel Coalition, and getting to teach God’s word to the men of Brook Hills is one of the great joys of my life.
 

Brad Philpot
My wonderful wife Laura and I are raising four children in the Leeds area. We have co-lead an adult small group for around eight years and also serve in BH Kids ministry as Ignite faith trainers. On Fridays, I really enjoy seeing the Word exposed to men in new ways and hearing practical conversations that come from that. 

James Mintz
I’ve been married to Stacy for more than 37 years and hope we have (at least) 37 more! - We have two grown children (Grace, married to Jonathan and Caleb, married to Judy) - We moved around a bit during the ‘W2’ years, including Bham, Augusta, Atlanta and London, but have been retired for the past 2+ years - Love digging into God’s Word, swinging a golf club and fixing ‘broken stuff’!

I’ve been married to Kandy since 2001 and have three children. We have been members of Brook Hills since 2020. I professed faith in Christ at the age of 10 and was baptized when I was 21. I am the Director of Emerging Technology and Development for C-Spire. I serve in multiple ways with our Global Team and have previously served with Student Ministry, City Ministries, and disaster response.
