Resist Satan

"'...God is opposed to the proud, but gives grace to the humble.'  Submit therefore to God.  Resist the devil and he will flee from you.  Draw near to God and He will draw near to you."  James 4:7-8 (NAS)

The first step in resisting Satan is to humble yourself before God.  You need His grace to overcome the enemy.  The second step is to submit to God.  To resist Satan is not to pay attention to him but to draw near to God, the opposite of Satan's desires.  To draw near to God is to move further from Satan.

A Prayer:
Father, thank You for Your Word and its guidance.  Help me through Your Spirit to humble myself and submit myself to You.  I confess my need of Your grace to resist the evil one.  I need Your favor and strength.  I cannot fight one stronger than myself and win.  Help me to draw near to You.  Intimacy with you is my best weapon against the temptations the enemy throws into my path.  Lord, because You love me, it is my desire to know You better and to be a best friend with You.  I am seeking to follow Your Word, help me in this desire.  Lord Jesus, You won the victory over Satan.  Please make Your victory mine.  Help me to be always mindful that You are alive in me to help me.  Amen.

"I (Jesus) have given you authority to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you."  Luke 10:19 (NAS)
