Update: March 12, 2007: The Many Faces of Caleb
As we come down to the last two nights in Caleb's city, we can't help but to think about the 26 days we have now spent with our son. From a tense first meeting to laughs in our apartment today, from crying in the baby house to crying in the bed, we have seen his personality unfold on a daily basis. And so we thought it might be appropriate to give you a small glimpse of who Caleb is through the many faces he makes...

"Innocent" Caleb |
First is "Smiling" Caleb. His smile really can brighten the room, and it is no longer uni-tooth (over the last couple of weeks, a few other teeth have started coming in!). What is so neat about Caleb’s smile is that when he is around other people, he gets very quiet and nervous. But as soon as it’s just the three of us in our apartment, he comes alive, crawling and laughing all over the place. It’s definitely one of those things where you look at him in the morning after a sleepless night and you want to be frustrated, but he looks at you, gives you that smile, and then crawls up in your arms. All of the sudden, the memories of last night simply fade away.
On the other side of the spectrum is "Pouting" Caleb. This is a face we were first introduced to in the baby house. When Caleb begins to get frustrated, he will at times put his chin down close to his neck and stick out his lips. We hate to frustrate him, but at the same time we love this precious face!
Then you have "Innocent" Caleb. He really doesn’t get into too many things he’s not supposed to, but on occastion Caleb will get caught doing something he doesn’t need to. He’ll immediately look up with a “What Did I Do?” look on his face. You just can’t help but to go give him a big hug and a kiss!
Speaking of kissing, mommy is the queen of giving this little guy hugs and kisses. So we’ve named the next look the “Why Does She ALWAYS Have to Kiss Me?” face.
On the day we had the opportunity to feed Caleb, we saw a variety of different faces. But our favorite of all was after he finished sipping his tea and eating his soup, meatballs, potatoes, AND bread, and he gave us the “I Can’t Take Another Bite” Face.

Then there’s the faces of Caleb which correspond to the awkward situations he finds himself in. When he came in on that cold day in the baby house, he had a “Get This Baker’s Hat Off My Head” face. Soon after the beat-boxing began, Caleb learned to spit and we were introduced to the “You Better Watch Out or You’re Going to Get Drenched” face. And then the day we left the baby house, it was the priceless “Get Me Out of This Snowsuit Because I’m Sweating Profusely” face.

But with all of the faces we’ve seen, the one that sticks out the most is the simple face he gives us when he’s crawling and he turns to look back at us, when he’s sitting in our laps and we’re singing a song to him, or when he’s looking into our eyes when we're holding him close. We like to call it the “I Think I Like This New Family” face, and each time we see it, we praise God for bringing the three of us together.

We love you and we miss you!
