Update: February 28, 2007: Running In Place
Another day without seeing our son. He's had two doctors since we've been here. His primary doctor left a few days ago for a long trip, so another doctor has stepped in.
There's basically two schools of thought when it comes to sick children and visits in the baby house. Some doctors say that when a baby is sick, it's actually good for his prospective parents to come and at least hold him for about 30 minutes each day. According to this school of thought, the personal nurture and affection of parents plays a part in helping the child feel better. On the other hand, some doctors here believe that if a child is sick, they should rest away from all civilization in their own room, bed, surroundings, etc., and do nothing. You'll never guess which school of thought the new doctor abides by!
So while our child rests, we join him away from all civilization in our own room, bed, surroundings, etc., and do nothing. Well... that's not all true. Yesterday, I was in one room reading and studying and Heather had gone into another room. I heard some strange noises on the other side of the apartment, and so I called out to ask her what was going on. She opened the door and came out in a sweat with her iPod headphones in her ears, and she said with a winded look on her face, “I’m running in place.” Confused, I said, "What?" She said, "I'm pretending I'm on a treadmill... I'm getting some exercise." And so that's what it's come to. It's one of those surreal moments on this journey where it hits me…I'm sitting in an apartment in an obscure city in Kazakhstan adopting a child I'm not even allowed to see and my wife is in the next room running nowhere. This isn't what I had in mind…
The word is that our baby is feeling better, though, and so we're very hopeful that we will get to see him tomorrow. Please continue to pray for his health. It really is amazing to think that even though we can’t see him, literally thousands of people are interceding on this child’s behalf. Wow…God is good.
Today was our final day of required visitation, and so we now have a date for our pre-court hearing. Next Tuesday, March 6, we will go to pre-court, which is basically a "dress rehearsal" for court. At the end of pre-court, we will receive our official court date. Don't ask us why pre-court and then court... it's just the way the process works. These dates are a little later than we were anticipating, yet God's sovereign timing has been evident every step of the way... we have no reason not to trust Him now! And look at the bright side--at this rate, Heather may be ready to run a marathon by the end of this journey... in her own room.
We love you and miss you!
