Update: February 26, 2007: Staying Inside...
We were optimistic this morning about visiting our son, having missed the last three opportunities because of his fever. But about 15 minutes before our driver was scheduled to pick us up, we got another call and our visits for the day were cancelled. He still has a fever and he's also picked up a sore throat. Apparently, many of the baby house children have had respiratory infections over the last few weeks, and he had survived to this point without getting sick, but the last few days it finally caught up with him. Thus one more day in Kazakhstan without those precious two hours with our son.
The last couple of days, we've definitely had the opportunity to explore more of the city where we're staying. The only problem has been the temperature... today was a mild -24 degrees Celsius (-11 degrees Fahrenheit). We have discovered that such weather puts a damper on romantic walks through town. But today we decided we weren’t going to let the weather stop us!
So we put on our coats and bundled up for an afternoon walk. We really wanted to spend some concentrated time outside of our apartment. So we set out for our journey around town. It is so beautiful and we had all afternoon to explore. Fifteen minutes later, we were back inside the apartment. Something about the sting of -24 degree wind on your face, watery eyes, a runny nose, and numb fingers convinces you that time inside the apartment isn't such a bad idea. And so we're back here again until tomorrow, when hopefully we will be able to go out and visit our son.
Thank you so much for praying for him.
We love you and miss you!
