Update: February 20, 2007: The Legend
"Everybody, dance now bum, bum, bum, bum… Everybody, dance now… bum, bum, bum, bum. Everybody dance now." D.J. Jazzy Baby is in the house.

It all started with the ABC song. Our son likes to wander some, and so at one point this morning, he found himself over in another kid's toys. We go to the baby house each day with another couple who is adopting an 18-month-old boy. And so the usual routine is--both couples come in at the same time each morning and afternoon, we set up shop on blankets in opposite sides of the room, and we play with our kids there. However, both these guys are starting to get interested in each other’s goods.

So we're playing with our baby this morning, and he hears this stuffed animal across the room that sings the alphabet. And so he suddenly decides that our toys aren't good enough. So he goes into a crawl. It was pretty sly--we thought he was just wandering around a little, but then he darted for the prize. There it was--the green ABC talking frog. As soon as he got there and began to play with it, the frog began to sing. Ahhh--game on. Now was the time for him to strut his stuff. He immediately rose to his knees and began to rock. This kid that has seemed at so many times mellow and mild-mannered was all of the sudden going back and forth in this dancing motion--and he was doing it on beat!

We thought--oh, it's just a fluke. But then this afternoon, there was a stereo in the playroom. Our interpreter turned on the music, and D.J. Jazzy Baby was back. Head bobbing, arms moving up and down, the uni-tooth grin--he was in the groove. Right there, sitting on my stomach in a small baby house in Kazakhstan, a legend was born.

We love you and miss you!
