First Timothy: The Household of God

The local church is God’s household—God’s people entrusted with God’s gospel to embody, defend, and advance God’s truth in the world. In Paul’s first letter to Timothy, his “child in the faith,” Paul exhorts Timothy to lead the church at Ephesus to pray fervently, serve diligently, and care sacrificially for one another. He warns against dangerous threats to the church, from deceptive teachings in Chapter 1 all the way to destructive materialism in Chapter 6. In it all, he shows how godliness becomes a reality in the local church only through saturation in the gospel. During these 11 weeks in 1 Timothy, I pray that God will further shape our church, our faith family, and God’s household, with the gospel for our collective good as His people and for His ultimate glory among all peoples.show more »
