As the people of God are divided into a northern kingdom (Israel) and a southern kingdom (Judah), we see a variety of kings, most of whom are evil and turn their hearts and the hearts of the people away from God. Meanwhile, God raises up prophets to speak on His behalf to His people. These prophets are messengers of God empowered by the Spirit of God to bring messages of judgment, hope, guidance, and warning.
