A Mid Week Study for Preschoolers Focused on Missions Education

God’s mission is a thread woven throughout the Bible, from Genesis to Revelation. God makes it clear that His desire is for all people to know Him and follow Him. The Bible helps us understand God’s mission and know how we as Christians are to be involved in His mission.

What is Preschool Missions Education?

Preschoolers become aware of missions in many different ways. Through an interactive, hands on study using the “Mission Friends” curriculum we are helping preschoolers develop a heart for missions. Our focus areas are:

  • Learning what the Bible says about Missions

Preschoolers learn that the Bible says to tell others about Jesus. (Matt. 28:19) By learning what the Bible says and through prayer and conversation about praying and by giving and helping others, they will learn the basis of missions. Preschoolers also learn about people who told others about Jesus.

  • Learning about Missions

Preschoolers learn about the ways God is at work in the world. They learn that everyone in the world needs to know about God’s love and to know God. As preschoolers become aware of missions, they begin to know how God is at work in their community, in the nation, and in the world.

  • Learning about Missionaries

Preschoolers will learn what a missionary does, where the missionary lives, about the missionary’s family, and how the missionary tells others about Jesus. They will learn about career missionaries and volunteers who share Jesus’ love with others.

  • Learning about People

Preschoolers will learn about people in my community, my state, the nation and the world. They learn about the places where people live as well as the cultural aspects such as food, clothes, houses, language, churches, music, the land and animals. Preschoolers learn ways people are alike them and ways they are different. They learn that all people need to hear about Jesus and to know Him.

  • Praying for Missions

Preschoolers discover that they can talk to God at any time and anyplace. As they learn about missions, this leads to opportunities for prayer. Prayer in teachable moments as they hear of the needs for others and prayer for the missionaries and the people they are learning about.

  • Engaging in Mission Actions

For preschoolers, mission action means helping others. While they are involved in “helping others” activities, they develop an understanding that they can share God’s love with others. A “helping others” activity is making, doing, or giving something to help someone.

  • Supporting Missions

This mission focus area includes giving to missions and encouraging those who serve in missions. As preschoolers learn about missions, they learn how the money they give is used for missions work.

“It is our prayer that every preschooler who joins us on Wednesday nights in Built on Missions will be exposed to many new and exciting experiences. May their eyes and hearts be opened to see God’s world and its people so that the Glory of God will be known to all nations!”
