Early Learning Center
Education in a Great Environment
The Early Learning Center at the Church at Brook Hills recognizes that
preschoolers need to grow spiritually, mentally, emotionally, physically and
socially. We facilitate this by providing a biblically-based, age-appropriate
pre-academic education ministry for each child.
Of God and Fun
We believe in order to help children reach their highest potential in their
development they must become aware of God and his importance in their lives. In
our endeavor to achieve this goal we desire to develop a strong and supportive
relationship with each child and family.
General Information
**We are now registering for the 2011-12 Fall School Year.
-
Through security measures such as background checks for all teachers and our
“Child Protection First!” policy we strive to ensure each
child can learn and be cared for in a safe-environment.
-
We use the "Wee Learn" curriculum, which is developed
around themes of understanding God, Jesus, the Bible, the church, self, others
and the natural world. Hands-on learning activities include books, art, music,
blocks, home loving, nature, puzzles, manipulatives and more. Children are given
opportunities to develop thinking and reasoning skills, creativity and learning
to get along with others.
Each class has planned activities (age-appropriate). A Bible story time is
included each day, as well as indoor and outdoor activities. Chapel is conducted
once a month for three and four year olds.
-
Music Time at the ELC exists to provide a fun and creative environment where
children can learn and explore music while focusing on the following goals:
- To help children develop their God given talents through music.
- To learn that music can be an expression of Praise and Worship to God.
- To use music to teach Spiritual Truths.
-
Crawlers (6 months) Through Two-Year Olds.
Using age-appropriate curriculum our crawlers and two-year-olds begin to
learn about God, Jesus, the Bible, the church, self, family, others, and the
natural world through a wide range of themes and activities using age
appropriate curriculum.
-
Guidance and a large range of activities are provided to help each child
develop language, prereading, prewriting, and other foundational skills
appropriate to his or her stage of development. Physically, mental, emotions,
socially, and spiritual development are interrelated.
-
In three year old classes, children make a gradual transition to a more
structured environment. The focus for this group is opportunities for prayer,
making choices, social skill development, and pre-academic skills.
-
In the four year old classes, basic letters and sounds and math concepts are
explored by using the Christian A Beka curriculum. Although the curriculum is
more academic in nature, the focus is to help develop a love for learning by
exploring concepts without insisting on mastery. Children will spend much of
their time in self-directed play and development skills.
-
The ELC calendar corresponds with the Shelby County school year. The weekday
hours are 9:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., with extended care available from 7:00 a.m. to
4:30 p.m., based upon availability. Children’s ages for enrollment
are based on September 2. Registration and tuition fees are available in our
