Sunday Activities for Preschoolers

The Nursery, Toddler and Preschool ministry is for all children from newborns up through age 5 and is available during all worship gatherings.  It is our desire to come alongside parents in nurturing the faith of their children.  Our responsibility is to model and teach Biblical truth in an attitude of frequent prayer, spiritual atmosphere, Biblical and God-centered storytelling and worship.

Psalm 78:1-11 is the basis of our ministry to preschoolers at Brook Hills.

New Children and Parent information

  • 1st Time guest card

Print and fill out and bring with you to check in child to preschool

  • Campus map/Parking recommendations

  • What to Expect

    • You will be asked to fill out a first time guest card. These cards can be found at each preschool check in station.
    • When the card is completed, a check in volunteer will enter the information into the computer generating a security tag. This security tag generates a random code printed on your child’s tag and prints a copy of that code for you to use as a receipt to pick up your child.
    • A Host will escort your family to the assigned classroom
    • Pagers are available should we need you during the service. If you can’t be located using the vibrating pager, the child’s security code will be used to alert you on the screen in the worship room.
    • All of our teachers have completed a background screening.
  • What to Know and Bring

    Babies and Toddlers
    • Before coming to the Nursery please label all of the baby’s items: diaper bag, bottles, pacifier, sippy cups, blankets and burp cloths, sweaters, coats, etc. We can print a name tag for you if you need one.
    • We encourage all parents to bring pacifiers and bottles. This allows us to comfort and keep your baby happy while you are away.
    • Please bring a sufficient supply of diapers and a change of clothes.
    • Please leave toys at home unless your baby prefers a special toy.
    • We provide blankets and burp cloths. All toys and laundry are washed each week in a sanitizing machine and bed sheets are changed after each baby.
    • Because of crowded drop off points, we prefer that one parent pick up or drop off your baby in the nursery.
    • Health Care Guidelines are available to all of our parents.
    • Special instructions for your child can be written on the dry erase board in his/her classroom (i.e. nap time, feeding time, etc.)
    • Due to the large number of children in our Nursery on Sunday morning, we ask you do not send baby food. We will be glad to give your baby a bottle. We provide age appropriate snacks for all of the children in the Nursery. If your child has an allergy, please notify us prior to entering the classroom. We currently have children with food allergies and provide allergy free rooms with allergy approved snacks.
    Twos

    • We ask that you please leave toys at home as we provide age appropriate toys in each classroom.
    Three-Five Year olds
    • We ask that you please remind your child to bring his/her Bible to class. If he/she does not have a Bible or if you forget to bring their Bible, we do have extra Bibles in the classroom.
    • During our preschool large group time for four and five year olds, we have a time of offering. We encourage you to discuss this with your child at home. If you desire, you may send a small offering with your child.
    • If weather permits, we do allow the children to play on the playground, please dress your child appropriately.
    • We ask that you please leave toys at home as we provide age appropriate toys in each classroom.
    Kindergarteners and Worship

It is our goal, through preschool large group time, to prepare kindergartners for corporate worship. We ask that as your child enters Kindergarten, you begin to take them to worship with you. This will mean that your child will attend a Small Group time and a worship gathering with their family. Here are a few suggestions to help you with this transition.

    • Pick up a child’s worship guide when you enter the worship room
    • Young children may not fully understand what is going on during worship. You may wish to use this as an opportunity for further discussion with your child.
    • Remind them to bring their Bible and offering to worship
    • Take them to the bathroom and get a drink of water before worship.
  • Allergy Guidelines

Each week that you check your child into preschool, please pick up a yellow “allergy alert” sticker and place on the child. Cheerios are provided for children with food allergies.

Here is the information we will need from you.

    • Specific allergies and reactions.
    • Specific information on what they can or can’t have. We do have a list of ingredients for you to review if needed
    • Please take a pager.
  • Medication Policy

Per our policy, we do not administer any medicine, orally or topically. If your child should need medication of any kind you will be called to administer the medicine. In the event of an emergency, you would be immediately paged and our emergency response team would be notified.

  • Health Care Guidelines

    • Please do not bring your child if they have had a fever within the last 24 hours.
    • Please do not bring your child if they have been vomiting or have had diarrhea with in the last 24 hours.
    • Please do not bring your child if they have had any unexplained rash, thick colored discharge from the nose or eyes, or an obvious cough or sore throat.
    • Anytime your child has been ill they must be symptom free for 24 hours in order to be left in the Nursery.
  • Special Needs

Buddies minister to a special needs child in their Small Group so the parents may attend worship. The Buddy assists the child one-on-one with the various activities in the classroom and other personal needs. An application, interview and background check are required. This is a deacon position. Serving day is Sunday. For more information please contact Karen Beard at (205) 313-7754 or kbeard@brookhills.org.
