Making Difficult Decisions
God is the ultimate source of all wisdom. Instead of doing it on your own, or going to self-help books for wisdom, go to God. The former are fallible human reasoning, the latter is perfection.

God is a rich source of unlimited wisdom.

  • He gives wisdom to the wise, and knowledge to them that know understanding. He reveals the deep secret things; He knows what is in the darkness, and the light dwells with Him (Dan. 2:21-22).

  • Oh, the depth of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable His judgments, and His paths beyond tracing out! Who has known the mind of the Lord? Or who has been His counselor? (Rom. 11:33-34)

God's wisdom is superior.

  • For jealousy and selfishness are not God's kind of wisdom. Such things are earthly, unspiritual, and motivated by the devil (James 3:15).

  • But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure. It is also peace loving, gentle at all times, and willing to yield to others. It is full of mercy and good deeds. It shows no partiality and is always sincere (James 3:17).

God's wisdom is available to those who ask in faith.

  • If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind (James 1:5-6).

  • If you accept my words..., turning your ear to wisdom and applying your heart to understanding, and if you call out for insight and cry aloud for understanding, and if you look for it as for silver and search for it as for hidden treasure, then you will understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God. For the Lord gives wisdom, and from His mouth come knowledge and understanding (Prov. 2:1-6).

  • Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek His will in all you do, and He will direct your paths (Prov. 3:5-6).

Approach God with humility and reverence.

  • Pride leads to disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom (Prov. 11:2).

  • The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom; all those who practice it have a good understanding (Ps. 111:10).

  • This is what the Lord says, Let not the wise man boast of his wisdom or the strong man boast of his strength or the rich man boast of his riches, but let him who boasts boast about this: that he understands and knows Me, that I am the Lord, who exercises kindness, justice, and righteousness on earth, for in these I delight, declares the Lord (Jer. 9:23-24).

Your decisions should be based on a sincere desire to bring glory to Christ.

  • And whatever you do or say, let it be as a representative of the Lord Jesus, all the while giving thanks through Him to God the Father (Col. 3:17).

  • Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God (1 Cor. 10:31).
