The Arab of Yemen

There are over 24 million people in Yemen. Yemeni Arab society is tribal in structure with over 1,700 different tribes or clans. These various tribes are ruled by sheiks (Arab chiefs), who often fight with each other. Today, the majority of the Yemeni Arabs in Yemen still live in fortress-like villages that can be easily defended. Each house has windows on all sides and is built facing the outside of the village. All goods and persons passing through town are strictly controlled. Almost all of the Yemeni Arab are Muslims, and there is little doubt that Islam has influenced their society. In many Muslim countries, Muslims who profess faith in Jesus Christ can be put to death. Perhaps this explains why there are less than 5,000 known Yemeni believers in Yemen at the present time. Evangelization efforts among them are challenging due to restrictions in many of the countries, and general antagonism to the Gospel.

- Pray for our partner as they share the Gospel and pray for many to know Christ.
- Openly believing in Jesus is dangerous. Shari’a law, culture and family expectations are all factors in this. Pray for our partner as they encourage the believers they know and for boldness as they share with others.
- Our partner is spending time building relationships and discipling women in their neighborhood. Pray for deep friendships to grow and for these women to know Christ.
- There are many outside distractions on the field that can take time away from the main purpose of sharing the Gospel. Pray for our partner to have focus and for God to give many access points so many can know Christ.
- Our partner is new to the field and is adjusting to new culture. Pray for our partner as they continue to study and learn the language and that God would give grace as they adjust to the field.
- Pray for our partner to be strengthened and encouraged as they are in the Middle East. Pray God makes them steadfast as they pour their life out for the sake of the Gospel.
