Mid-Term Mission
Why are we doing Mid-Term Missions?
Often after participating in short-term missions, individuals and families sense the Lord leading them to serve for longer than a week or two. Our prayer is that The Church at Brook Hills will strategically send out people from this faith family to serve globally for up to two years. Our hope is that mid-term will serve as a foundational link between short-term and long-term work. Mid-term is beneficial for those who are seeking to discern the calling that God has placed on their lives. We believe that at the conclusion of a mid-term assignment that individuals and families will be prepared and equipped for long-term service or for life at home as global Christians.
Our goal is to strengthen the church through Short-Term Trips and establish the church with Long-Term sending and church planting. Mid-term serves as the middle tier to better expose, equip and encourage those that are being called out after Short-Term exposure to plant their lives Long-term. Most Long-Term missionaries had Mid-Term experience before committing to Long-Term service.
What is Mid-Term Missions?
Mid-Term is an assignment of 2 months - 2 years. Mid-Term is for people who want to give up a summer, a semester, a year or two and serve the Lord in a cross-cultural context.

All Brook Hills Mid-Term Missionaries will participate in the Mid-Term Training process.
- Training Session #1 (Logistical) -
The focus of the first meeting is to gather all Mid-Term participants together and begin forming the team. We will mostly cover issues of logistics, fundraising, and giving a descriptive overview of the Mid-Term process.
- Training Session #2 (Theological) - This will be some intentional training and discussion about the nature of the gospel, the role of the church, and the purpose of biblical mission. We will study some key texts and talk through how these issues apply to the Mid-Term assignment.
- Training Session #3 (Missiological) - This will be intentional training and discussion about culture, contextualization, and the role of the messenger. We will study some key texts and examine and discuss some case studies.
- Training Session #4 (Missional Living/Trip to Atlanta) - This will be our short-term day trip to Atlanta. We will serve and assist a local church that is currently ministering to Internationals in the Atlanta area. This session will provide the opportunity to put into practice what we have been discussing and expose the realities and difficulties of cross-cultural ministry.
- Training Session #5 (Exclusive Teams based on Religion and Location) - In this training session each individual team will meet together and debrief the Atlanta trip. This is also where we will begin to discuss and dialogue about the religion (Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism, Animism, Secularism, etc.) most represented in the location where they are going. We will give an overview of the religion, address what that looks like for the average person, and how to most effectively communicate truth in that context.
- Final Meeting - This meeting will be a time of fellowship, encouragement, and prayer. We want to gather everyone together one last time before we send everyone out.
-
Depart to your field of service.
- While serving overseas you will be in contact with the small groups that are partnering with you and also the Global Disciple-Making Team.
- All expenses that take place on the field of service will be taken care of through the field partner you will be serving alongside.
-
After returning from your Mid-Term trip, fill out a ministry report. This report will be made available to you following your service.
-
Take part in a debriefing session to close out your Mid-Term experience.
- This meeting will take place a few weeks after the team has returned home. We will set aside time to reflect, discuss, and talk through their experience ministering cross-culturally. We want to utilize this time to receive both positive and negative feedback. We want to provide a forum where we can analyze the strengths and weaknesses of the field partners, the location, and ultimately the Global Disciple-Making Team’s role in this process.
