Eduardo Torres Hispanic Ministry Pastor

What do you do at Brook Hills?
I am the pastor in the Hispanic ministry.

What is the best part of your job?
Teaching the Word of God and taking care of His flock. I also enjoy visits to homes.

How did you come to Brook Hills?
I arrived at Brook Hills in 2007 helping as a volunteer in the evangelization of Hispanics in Hoover. I began my work with Turner Mills, Elizabeth Souders, Katya Phillips, Keyla Bell and others. At the same time I was asking for a place to gather on Sunday mornings for the group we already had. I started talking with pastor Keith Stanley about the possibility of coming on staff as pastor of the Hispanic community, and in January 2008 I began the pastorate in the Hispanic ministry at Brook Hills.

Where are you from?
I'm from Caracas, Venezuela.

Who is your family?
My wife is Luzdary Torres and our youngest son’s name is Samuel. They are both with me here in Birmingham. The others are in Venezuela. They are César, Gabriela, Nahum and Israel. We have two beautiful granddaughters, Rachel and Anna, and also a wonderful grandson, Sebastián.

Can you give a short testimony of your relationship with Christ?
I met Christ around 1976 and since then, amid different circumstances, I have not ceased to love and serve Him. The Lord has used me in different ways, and each opportunity has been a precious experience. I have served as pastor for 25 years, but what I love the most has been the discipleship of others. I have spent precious time teaching the gospel of Christ to each new believer that God has brought to His feet. Every day in my devotional life with God, I thank Him and pray for them.

What is your favorite verse in the Bible?
And the Lord said to Paul one night in a vision, "Do not be afraid, but go on speaking and do not be silent, for I am with you, and no one will attack you to harm you, for I have many in this city who are my people." (Acts 18:9-10)

If you could have one superpower, what would it be and why?
I cannot think of having superpowers like Superman, the Flash, or Wonder Woman. All this is fantasy. But I can assure you that I belong to a militia army that has the power of God, and I have His Word and my faith as legitimate weapons to destroy the strongholds of evil in society and in individuals, their thoughts, arguments and self-sufficiency; there they are fragile, and I mighty in God to the extent of my obedience to Him (2 Corinthians 10:3-6).
