Women's Community Group is a multi-generational gathering of women who come together to study the Bible, grow in their faith, and cultivate friendship.

Our Format This Spring:
Our Women’s Community Group will study together the Priscilla Shirer study, The Armor of God.

Please make sure you order a workbook that has a video access code in the workbook so you can view the teaching video at home if needed

This Community Group breaks into small groups each week after their large group video teaching time. Each small group will have an opportunity to form friendships across the generations as we pair small groups with our Mom Time small groups. Sister Groups are two breakout groups that will intentionally spend time together during the semester to form stronger friendships and model Titus 2 in our church.

WOMEN'S COMMUNITY GROUP LEADERS

Nan Brinkerhoff
I have four adult kids, one precious grandbaby named Ellie, and a Jack Russell named Fidget. My kids are scattered across the US and the world: Seattle, DC, Boston, and Birmingham. I am a retired pediatrician as of October 2020! I love The Church at Brook Hills and have been attending and involved in various aspects of serving for about 10 years. I enjoy reading, swimming, hiking and I do Pilates (although I can’t say I enjoy the pain of that).

 Deb Bengston
I enjoy spending family time with my husband of 43 years and my two daughters’ families, which includes four precious grandchildren. I enjoy cooking, watching football, boating, and activities that bring people together. I am a retired teacher of 28 years. Since retirement, I have found a passion in teaching the Bible to women at a local addiction recovery facility, while also loving to gather at church with my BH women’s small group to study the Word and encourage and support one another.

Carol Brown
I have lived in Birmingham all my life. I have been married to Bill Brown for 54 wonderful years. We have two children and three grandchildren. I enjoy my family and love cooking for them on as many occasions as I can bring them together. Aside from leading the Women's Community Group, my husband and I lead a senior adult Community Group on Sunday mornings. I especially love the ministry which God has called me to with women.

Phaedra Galloway
I live in Pelham with my husband and youngest daughter. I am a retired IT Project Manager, and I spend time with my three adult kids and taking care of my mom. I am blessed to volunteer at Blanket Fort Hope to fight against human trafficking and care for child survivors of sex trafficking. I lead and love a multigenerational women's bible study and attend a women's community bible study.

Katie Grubbs
I moved to Alabama in 2021 from Texas and live in Leeds with my husband, David (an English teacher at the Westminster School at Oak Mountain), and our four elementary school-age children. I also studied English literature in college, and I'm an adjunct professor of English, teaching online for Houston Christian University. Three of our four kids are on the autism spectrum, so I have a passion for supporting other special needs moms. We adore the special needs ministry here at Brook Hills, and it's one of the big reasons we came here to be members. I absolutely love teaching the Bible to women and showing how it connects with and inspires church history, literature, and art. In my spare time, I enjoy reading mystery novels, sewing, and watching the Great British Baking Show.

Jan Hendrickson
I've been married to Claude for 37 years and have three grown children. I am blessed with four grandchildren. I've led a multigenerational small group on Wednesday mornings for several years and I've learned so much more from them than they have from me. I also enjoy horseback riding and being outside!

Michelle Hower
I live in Leeds with my husband, three sons, and my mom. I teach a multigenerational women's group on Wednesday mornings. My husband and I lead a couple’s group on Sunday mornings, and I teach in preschool at Brook Hills on Wednesday nights. I enjoy painting and calligraphy. I really enjoy opportunities to do ministry in multigenerational ways.

Lee Peavy
God has blessed me with the privilege of serving on the staff of churches and ministry organizations for many years. My passion is to disciple women to become wholehearted followers of Jesus, to walk in their identity as believers, and to challenge them to become more like Him. I have been a widow for several years and moved back to my hometown of Birmingham about a year ago. I have one daughter and two grandsons, one in college and one who is an actor. I love spending time with family, friends, and my wonderful Branches family here at Brook Hills.
