"But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God's special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light." 1 Peter 2:9
God's people will never be perfect this side of heaven (Romans 3:9-12). Nevertheless, we are called to be holy because God is holy (Leviticus 11:44)... which sounds impossible. But the word "holiness" in Hebrew literally means "set-apartness." God isn't demanding impossible perfection. He calls every believer to live as uniquely separate (Leviticus 20:26), devoted to Him (1 Kings 8:53) and completely different from the world (1 Peter 1:13-16). It should be obvious to anyone who sees us that we are set apart (John 15:5-8).
Jesus came to break our sin cycle and restore humanity's connection with our Creator God (2 Corinthians 5:19-21). Placing saving faith in the redemptive work of Jesus Christ's death on the cross justifies us before God (Romans 5:6-11). That incredible forgiveness and grace compels the true disciple toward righteousness, walking in God's ways not because we earn His grace, but because our love and thanksgiving manifests itself as obedience (1 John 5:1-5).
For this reason, Student Life Camp 2016 will walk alongside students through the fascinating, incredibly relatable life of Peter, who experienced these truths firsthand. We will follow his humble beginnings and calling (Matthew 4:18), examine his successes (Matthew 16:13-20) and many blunders while following Jesus (Mark 8:32-33), through his crushing failure (Mark 14:66-72) and ultimately into his redeemed life as world-changing Gospel advocate (John 21:1-19) and preacher (Acts 2:14-21). Students will clearly understand that those who follow Jesus are not set apart by perfection, but rather by single-minded devotion to and trust in the solid rock promises of Jesus Christ (Romans 12:1-2).
What is Student Life Mission Camp like?
*Worship, Celebration, and Family Groups are important parts of the day at camp. Worship services include drama by All Things To All People, praise and worship music, engaging teaching, and opportunities for students to be involved in worship.
*Mission Camp allows your church to serve as a group, meeting needs in the local community. Some of these areas of service include the following: working with children, manual labor, community outreach, ministering to senior adults, or even partnering with a local church or non-profit agency.
