Kymberly Bankston
Job title: Children's Minister
On the Brook Hills staff since: 2006
Birthday: February 17
Family: I was born in Mississippi and spent my childhood in Lebanon, Tennessee, the home of Cracker Barrel restaurants. I am married to Steven Bankston, who was raised on jambalaya in South Louisiana. He serves as the CFO of Cobb Theaters. We have been married for 16 years.
We have two active, beautiful boys, Barnes, age 11, and Carter, age 8, who became believers at an early age. After living in Nashville, Tennessee for nine years we moved to Birmingham in December 1999. Our favorite things to do as a family are sports and traveling. Our family motto is "noblesse oblige," Latin for "obligation of the noble". If you have been given something by God, you have an obligation to use it in a way that will honor Him. Our family verse is Matthew 6:33, "But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well."
Ministry Calling: On May 3, 2001, I fully surrendered to God's plan of serving full-time in vocational ministry. I am confident God has called me to be a minister to children. The focus of my ministry/calling is Faith Training--training children in the faith by focusing on teaching God's Word in such a way that children will accept Jesus, become pasionate about Him, and thus carry the Light as missionaries, evangelists or lay people. Once children have accepted Jesus as Savior and Lord,we must disciple and continue training them so they can walk confidently through whatever doors God opens for them.
What I Enjoy About Serving at Brook Hills: Brook Hills provides an environment that allows me to intentionally live out my passion and heart's desire that children come to know Jesus. This body of believers, and the leadership God has placed here, encourage me to take my faith beyond only knowing, to being and doing. From lay leadership to fulltime vocational ministers, at Brook Hills I am constantly reminded that Christ must never be just one more thing to occasionally acknowledge. Rather, He must be the Lord of my life and part of every area of my life.
Interesting and Unusual Facts: I attended Castle Heights Military Academy, a predominantly male college preparatory school. I was a Rotary Foundation Scholar and did post graduate work at the University of Otago in Dunedin, New Zealand. During my year in New Zealand, I represented Rotary International as a featured speaker at 57 venues including the New Zealand Rotary National Convention.
My Relationship with Christ: I repented of my sins, and accepted Jesus as my Lord and Savior at the age of 7 during Vacation Bible School. I made the decision public at First Baptist Church, Lebanon, Tennessee and was baptized soon afterwards. On many occasions since that time, the Holy Spirit has convicted me of my need to seek a closer daily walk with Jesus, and a deeper understanding of the relationship between God, and those He has chosen to be His.
On March 2, 1999, God helped me understand and learn a very important truth, "The moment God speaks to you is the moment He wants you to respond to Him." I came to accept the fact that God has the right to interrupt my plans. I continue on a journey with God who has continually held me in His hand and assured me I am His.
